It's Gingerbread White Russian and JB Season
You might want to make this one before the guests arrive...
Hi. It’s been a few weeks and all I have to say is I can’t stop eating cannolis. They were recently reintroduced into my life and there’s absolutely no going back. It has to be a high quality ‘noli and Dortoni’s Bakery in Huntington is just that. The filling is the perfect sweetness and the cookie is so fresh and almost cake-like. If you can’t find me, I’ll be breaking in to get my fix. Why not use the front door??
For the next three weeks I will be blasting the Justin Bieber Christmas album, getting non dairy sugar cookie cold foam on my cold brew at Starbucks (have fun ordering that), and fighting for my life on the stair master - idk I’m in a low impact cardio phase.
Speaking of low impact cardio (looking at you late luteal), we’re currently working on a cycle syncing guide that will help you tune into your body and feel amazing in every phase of your moon cycle (menstrual cycle, rebranded). The guide will have helpful information about each phase along with tips, activity suggestions, and food recommendations. We’ll also be posting recipes for each phase so stay tuned. It’s food for the girls (and their boyfriends who cook for them). Here’s a little preview of the vibes.
Okay onto the bevvies -it’s December and you might need a drink! There’s nothing that motivates me to socialize more than a festive cocktail. Luckily making this does not require any social interactions…but you will be buzzing after a few sips.
In Chinese Medicine they say that alcohol moves qi because it directly affects your liver. Qi is your life force energy and your liver governs the smooth flow of qi throughout your body. The reason you feel good and loose (ew) after a cocktail, is that your energy is literally being freed up. Of course there are other ways to unblock your energy (exercising, yoga, meditation, qigong, massage) that don’t leave you hungover but it’s kind of fun to know the energetic reason you may feel like having a drink. This might be the kind of fact that I love but no one else wants to hear about. No worries if not!!!!
I have good reason that the next drink you make should be this Gingerbread White Russian. A traditional White Russian is vodka, kahlua, and cream. This FESTIVE one is vodka, coconut liqueur, gingerbread simple syrup, and a whipped coffee topping. The snowflake coconut rim is unfortunately a nonnegotiable. Jk you have free will, so you can do whatever you want but Santa’s watching.
You can batch the base of the cocktail and then do the whipped coffee just before serving. If you want to skip the whipped coffee (sad) you can also just add a splash of strong brewed coffee or espresso to the base of the cocktail. You’ve got options.
I love a coffee cocktail and while I’m never fully giving up espresso martinis- Crabtrees hates to see me coming - this is a nice switch up. Plus I’ve never made my own espresso martinis but I have made this…
While the whipped coffee is the visual star, the gingerbread simple syrup really gives this drink the holiday spirit. It’s easy to make your own and you can use the leftovers for lattes, pancakes, or cozy wintery hot chocolate. That sounds so good I need to make that immediately.
This recipe was a partnership with Oatrageous, which is the oat milk liqueur that we used. It’s delicious, vegan, and has way less sugar than other brands. Feel free to use a different liqueur but it may affect the recipe!
Gingerbread White Russian (makes 1 drink):
2 ounces Oatrageous Coconut (an oat milk based liqueur)
1 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce gingerbread simple syrup (recipe in step 1)
For the whipped coffee topping:
2 teaspoons instant coffee
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon boiling water
Method:
Make the gingerbread simple syrup: Add 1/2 cup coconut sugar, 1/2 cup water, 1 tablespoon molasses, 1 inch fresh ginger (peeled and roughly chopped), and 1 cinnamon stick to a small pot on medium heat. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the sugar fully dissolves. Strain, let cool, and store in a mason jar.
Make the cocktail: Combine OATRAGEOUS Coconut, vodka, and gingerbread syrup in a glass and stir to combine. Add ice if desired. Option to use a cocktail shaker.
Make the whipped coffee topping: Add the instant coffee, sugar, and boiling water to a mason jar. Use a frother to whip it until foamy. Pour on top of the drink.
Recipe Notes:
*For batching the whipped coffee topping, you can use a bowl and electric mixer.
*Garnish with a cinnamon stick!
I need this ASAP.
